コロナに負けない！

2021年度がスタートしました。まだまだコロナの影響が続いています。宮城県独自の緊急事態宣言が出されており、昨年のように様々ないことができないのではという不安の中のスタートとなりました。

そんな心配もよそに新入生40名は元気いっぱいに新しい学校生活をスタートしてくれました！

We Will Not Lose to Covid!

The school year 2021 has started but the effects of Covid is still around us. The governement of Miyagi Prefecture had also declared a state of emergency over the region at the start of April. So, in the midst of worries that are similar to last year's, we started the new semester.

However, even if this is the case, our 40 new students started their YMCA school life with full of energy!

入学前のオリエンテーション

仙台YMCA国際ホテル製菓専門学校では、入学式前に新入生のオリエンテーションを行っています。授業開始までに仲間づくりと、学校生活を円滑に行うためのルールや授業内容等について説明いたします。

YMCAの特長でもあるスーツや挨拶などの立ち居振る舞いについては、時間をかけて練習をします。女子は、メイクの仕方、男子は、頭髪の整え方など、相手に不快感を与えないしぐさや身だしなみをしっかりと学び、YMCAの学生として自覚を持って学校生活を送る準備を行います。

特に留学生は、日本のビジネス習慣にもなれる必要もあります。挨拶一つにしても留学生には新鮮です。

Freshmen Orientation

Here at Sendai YMCA Hotel and Pastry School, we conduct orientation for our freshmen. In this orientation, we talked about various things from school rules and class details to making friends and how to smoothly transition to the YMCA life. 

As for one of our main characteristics - suits and graceful manner, we took the time to teach and have the students practice them one by one. We also conducted a talk about hair and make-up for our female students while proper hair arrangement for our male students. We made sure that our students are aware of gestures and postures that may make the other person (e.g., customers, peers) upset or feel discomfort.

This topic is especially important for our foreign students. Students from different countries need to learn and be accustomed to Japanese business manners as even greetings in Japanese may be completely new to them.

2年生が歓迎会を開催

例年2年生が1年生を迎える歓迎会が行われます。パティシエ科の学生がスイーツを作るのが例年ですが、今年はコロナの影響で歓迎パーティはお預けとなりました。

そこで2年生に「何かできないか」提案してほしいというと、「UNOをしたい」ということで、しばしみんなでUNOをして歓迎をしました。

Second Year Students Held a Welcome Party

Every year, our second year students hold a welcome party for the freshmen. Up until present, students of the Patissier Course make sweets for this event. However, due to the rising cases of Covid in the country, we decided to not have a big welcome party.

Given the situation at hand, we asked our seniors, "What can we do to at least welcome our first year students?" And they answered, "We want to play UNO with them." And so, as a way to welcome the new students, everyone played UNO even if it is only for a short while.

楽しく、温かい先輩たちに迎えられ、新しい生活が始まりました。

And so, with the fun and warm welcome given by the senior students, the freshmen started the new chapter of their life.
